You Can Wear My Jewelry With These Accessories

If you like the beadwoven earrings and necklace but have so far held off on buying them because you wondered what you'd wear them with, worry no longer!

Let this treasury act as your personal shopper on Etsy!

Beadwoven designs are very under-rated and deserve to take a spot in your jewelry box next to your pearls, gemstones, glass, and metal. The end product that results is worth more than the sum of its parts. When you buy beadwoven jewelry you are investing in a true piece of wearable art.

Purple is in this winter and it is gorgeous when combined with metallic bronze/gold with hints of plum and/or blue! The beads I've used for the tubular mesh in this Triangle necklace; Volcanic Heart Center and Golden Buds earrings are hexagonal, with an irridescent metallic color which give them the effect of fish scales, and when the light hits them they are absolutely luminous!

Fabric Reincarnated

1970's Fabric with Beads - $15.00
Measures 5 by 4.5 inches, with a short 18 inch strap.

Jajaja is a small business run by two sisters in Castro Valley California who recycle fabric and make all kinds of handbags out of it. Many of the fabrics they use are vintage, coming from the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s.

I love the cheeriness of some of these handbags! You would never guess that they are made with recycled fabric to look at them! This one below has such vibrant colors, as if it were brand new.

1960s Recycled Shirt Purse - $17.00
measures 9 by 9.5 with a 40 inch strap.

The two of them find their materials at thrift shops, yard sales, estate sales, antique shows, on Ebay, fabric stores, and they also get some donated.

They were taught to sew by their grandmother as they were growing up, and all their clothes as children were handmade.

This one in shades of blue-green and royal blue has a sleek design and would be perfect to carry with you when you want to travel light and all you need to bring with you is the basics. It is the right shape and size for a cell phone, some ID, wallet, and checkbook. If you're wearing jeans it will dress them up just enough to make you stylish but without being too formal.

Recycled Curtain Purse - $17.00
Cut in a diagonal shape, so the bottom measures 10 by 8 inches, and the top measures 10 by 10.5 inches. The strap is 38 inches long. It is fully lined with ivory lining, and a matching pocket and is reinforced with interfacing.

Hand-sewn and Home-grown

Soandsewcrafty is a small craft business whose owner, Opp, Alabama native Karen Copeland, stitches a variety of interesting homespun items, with a sense of humor and playfulness. Among the many items she makes are costumes for pets (like this pumpkin outfit from which her orange tabby peaks out from over its shoulder to see who might be staring),

The lovely blue, green and yellow paisley handbag (shown at top),

these adorable cat silhouette pillows,

scrubs with Christmas trees and other unusual patterns on them, cloth sanitary pads, throws, and a mix of other fabric items.

Karen describes how she was introduced to needle and thread. “I have been sewing for almost as long as I can remember. My mother and her mother were talented seamstresses, painters....just plain "crafty" people, and I suppose I inherited that from them! And believe me I am thankful to them for that!”

Four years ago a car accident left Karen permanently disabled with a broken leg that never quite healed. In constant pain, she is unable to sit or stand for lengths of time, so opening an online store on Etsy gave her the venue she needed to make some extra money to supplement her monthly disability check, and the impetus to clear out a lot of the fabric she’d been hoarding for years. Like most artists, she loves her supplies and relishes going out to buy more whenever she can.

Her sewing gives her a sense of purpose and accomplishment, and when she’s immersed in transforming fabric into something useful or fun, she can forget about the stresses of life for awhile and enjoy the process.
